Members who didn’t make it to the OMGD event celebrating the “wine of kings” really missed out on an evening of incredible wine and drink. Held at up-and-coming locavore restaurant Terroir, the night featured the culinary stylings of Chef “Hao” Khattiya Songchaiwana, who turned out a succession of “drinking food” bites elevated to stratospheric levels: a deceptively simply yaki onigiri, scallops and caviar, free-range Muscovy duck and the pièce de resistance, Terroir’s signature suckling pig.
To go with the menu, acting Echanson Molchaya Techapaibul shrewdly chose Burgundies that would showcase the chef’s flavors instead of competing with them. Anne et Jean Francois Ganevat “Kopin” 2021 paired nicely with caviar; Meursault “elevage en Grès” Domaine Michelot 2019 went with code in hazelnut and chestnut sauce; and the signature suckling pig was set off by the Morey-St-Denis “Tres Girard”, Domaine Hubert Lignier 2021. The evening was capped off by bottles of Pommard 1er Cru “Les Arvelets”, Domaine AF Gros 2021, which accompanied a “teishoku” of wagyu gohan.
